Saving Animals & Finding Homes

History

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was originally bred in the United Kingdom in the time of King Charles. They were the favorite breed of dog and were quite popular among the ladies of the court as lap dogs.

Appearance

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the largest of the Toy Breed, so they are quite small but hardy with a soft expression and a kind loving nature.
They come in four colours;
Blenheim: Tan and White
Tri-Colour: Black and White with Tan markings
Ruby: Solid Red
Black and Tan

Temperament

The Cavalier has a beautiful nature. They are kind and loving, excellent with children, the elderly, and everyone in between.
A hardy dog who is happy with plenty of exercises but is also just as content to be with you sleeping on the lounge.

A real people’s dog, not suited to long periods alone as they crave your affection.
They don’t make great guard dogs but will let you know when a stranger is near. The Cavalier has no road sense so a secure yard is a must.

Care/Grooming

Minimal grooming is required although attention should be paid to the “feathering” on the legs under the tail and behind the ears. A regular weekly brush is all that is needed.

Cavaliers can be prone to obesity as they love their food so will overindulge given the opportunity so regular exercise is needed especially as they age.

Health

Generally, a healthy breed but they do have some health issues.
The main areas of concern should be MVD {heart condition}, luxating patellas {slipping kneecaps} and genetic diseases including DM {degenerative myelopathy}, EFS {episode falling syndrome}, CCDE {curly coat dry eye syndrome}, NE {neonatal encephalopathy}, and Macrothrombocytopenia which is a condition associated with the circulatory system.

Purchasing a puppy from a reputable breeder that health tests appropriately the likelihood of these problems are greatly reduced.

What Drives Us

Our Purpose

At Kalarnee Park our aim is to breed sound, healthy dogs that are raised in the clean country air and are well socialized as great companions for all ages.
We are Registered Breeders with Dog’s QLD and all dogs are DNA tested for genetic diseases. We have carefully chosen quality bloodlines which exhibit good breed standards. All of our dogs are allowed to be dogs, we let them run through the paddocks and swim in the dams. They become accustomed to all farm animals and small children from an early age.
